Stretford-End.com August in Review

September 1, 2010

United Newcastle

The month of August saw United kick off the season in decent fashion. 7 points out of 9, a convincing victory over champions Chelsea in the Community Shield, and some encouraging performances by some players who were all but written off prior to a ball being kicked. Come this way to see who we voted player of the month, goal of the month and see who’s heading our Fantasy Football League..

Sir Alex names his 25-man Premier League squad

With the new Premier League rules now in effect, Sir Alex has named his 25-man squad for the Premier League this season. United registered 24 players including long-term absentee Owen Hargreaves. The gaffer cannot make any changes to the squad until January when the winter transfer window opens. None of these should come as a surprise, but let’s introduce our squad…

Homegrown: Neville, Rio, Brown, Owen, Rooney, Giggs, Carrick, Scholes, O’Shea, Evans, Fletcher, Gibson, and De Laet

Other: Van der Sar, Evra, Hargreaves, Anderson, Berbatov, Park, Chicharito, Vidic, Nani, Valencia, and Kuszczak

U-21s: Smalling, Fabio, Rafael, Obertan, Macheda, Bebe, and Amos

Manchester United vs. West Ham Match Preview

August 27, 2010

Rooney

West Ham have been tricky opponents for United in the past, but rarely at Old Trafford. Under new manager, Avram Grant, they will be looking to buck a trend that has seen them defeated on each of their past three visits. Manchester United will feel they have a point to prove on many levels – three points quickly became one point at Fulham last week whilst rivals Chelsea have already racked up a goal difference of +12 after just two games.

Fulham vs. Manchester United Match Preview

August 20, 2010

Fulham have been one of our toughest opponents in recent seasons, especially at Craven Cottage. In United’s last two visits, Fulham came out victorious. Now, United will have to break the trend to continue their winning start to the season. Former Red Devil Mark Hughes has taken over in the hot seat at Fulham. While it always adds a bit of intrigue to compete against former-players-turned-manager, Hughes stint at rivals City could make this match up even more heated.

Manchester United 3-0 Newcastle United Report

August 16, 2010

Form is temporary, class is permanent – so says the performance of Paul Scholes and the cameo from Ryan Giggs. Manchester United won 3-0 against their Newcastle namesakes and while they may not have scored the shedload that Champions Chelsea managed in their opening game, the message of intent was impressive in its own right. Dimitar Berbatov opened the scoring with Darren Fletcher grabbing a second just before half time before Giggs’ classy volley in the dying moments secured all three points.

14 August 2010 | Stretty Stories

August 14, 2010

It’s a pretty slow day on the United news front, but the Premier League is finally back! So rather than post stories simply for the sake of posting stories, I’ve decided to just recap today’s scores and highlight a few moments that deserve mention.

Today’s Results:

Tottenham 0 – 0 Manchester City

Aston Villa 3 – 0 West Ham

Blackburn 1 – 0 Everton

Bolton 0 – 0 Fulham

Sunderland 2 – 2 Birmingham

Wigan 0 – 4 Blackpool

Wolverhampton 2 – 1 Stoke City

Chelsea 6 – 0 West Brom

Despite all their new attacking purchases, City failed to find the net at White Hart Lane… In shocking news (sarcasm), Lee Cattermole is the first player of the 2010/11 Premier League season to be awarded a red card… I am now much more confident in my prediction that Wigan would be relegated this season. Consequently, I am now much less confident in my prediction that Blackpool would be relegated.

Discuss all today’s matches in the forum.
