Wayne Rooney continued his blistering goalscoring form with a double to send Manchester United back to the top of the Premier League with Dimitar Berbatov adding a third to round off an inspirational personal display.

Wolverhampton Wanderers 0-1 Manchester United |
|
March 6, 2010
Paul Scholes scored a landmark goal to give Premier League Champions Manchester United a crucial (if unconvincing) three points against division struggliers Wolves at Molineux. The United legend’s 100th league goal for the club returned them to the top of the league. Continue reading Wolverhampton Wanderers 0-1 Manchester United |
Time for a hero; so who will it be? |
|
March 5, 2010
I think we could safely say that after the last international break of the season we’re entering “squeaky bum time”; after a season that has seen thrills and spills and has been described as both fantastic and woeful, you might need time to pinch yourself and compose when you realise there’s only 8 weeks left of the league season. |
Chelsea to experience United defensive injury crisis? |
|
March 2, 2010
Back in December I got some stick for defending Sir Alex Ferguson for fielding a makeshift three man defense against Fulham at Craven Cottage. Some readers seemed to think that I was a 3-5-2 advocate, when in fact I do not feel it is effective in top level football anymore. Forwards are withdrawn to the flanks and cut inside to attack, so there is little need for a three center halves, with one effectively spare – but that is for another blog/discussion! My defense for Ferguson was based on the fact that United were suffering from a defensive injury nightmare with Van Der Sar, Vidic, Ferdinand, Brown, Evans, O’shea, Neville, Rafael and Fabio all unavailable for selection. Could it be that Chelsea are now experiencing similar problems? Continue reading Chelsea to experience United defensive injury crisis? |
Are Arsenal now a serious contender for the title? |
|
After we brushed aside a rather naive looking Arsenal in the 3-1 victory in January, I honestly thought there would be no way back for Arsenal. Combine that with a 2-0 defeat at the hands of league leaders Chelsea the following week, I smugly presumed that my prediction from the week before was highly accurate. Fast forward a month and Arsenal are two points behind United and three points behind Chelsea, whilst it appears that the Gunners have an easier run in than both United and Chelsea. So I lay it down to you, are Arsenal serious contenders for the title? Or will they fall at the wayside as they have done in the last few seasons? Manchester United 3-0 West Ham Match Report |
|
February 23, 2010
Wayne Rooney scored twice and Michael Owen came off the bench to net another as Champions Manchester United strolled past West Ham at Old Trafford. It was a poor game of football to mark the 100th anniversary of the Theatre of Dreams but Rooney did at least do his best to illuminate the fixture. Wolves fined £25,000 for fielding weakened side against United |
|
February 18, 2010
Wolverhampton Wanderers were today fined £25k for fielding an understrength side against United back in December. Wolverhampton Wanders lost the match 3-0, however made a number of changes from their game against Tottenham Hotspur the previous weekend for the clash against Manchester United. Mick McCarthy obviously felt that he should rest his side for the match against Burnley after United – a match that Wolves won 2-0. The Stretty Rant feel that the Premier League are demonstrating complete double standards on this issue. Continue reading Wolves fined £25,000 for fielding weakened side against United |
F365 re-writes United victory against Arsenal |
|
February 11, 2010
If you’re a regular reader of this blog or our forum then you’ll know nothing gets my goat quite like an idiot journalist; following our recent exhibition at the Emirates I wasn’t surprised to see people concentrate more on Arsenal than United. I was surprised how quickly they would forget however and how quickly said exhibition would be translated by a journalist on Football365.com as a “one dimensional”, “counter attack” philosophy. Like this blog? Follow Yolkie on Twitter. After the battering by Fulham in December made it 5 league defeats in the season, Manchester United have responded by dragging themselves back into contention with 6 wins out of 7 in the league to set up a massive eleven days in the clubs season – three away games against in-form, top class opposition will undoubtedly prompt Sir Alex to use the 4-3-3 formation. In doing so, we’ll find out more about the future of Anderson. Should Fergie swallow his pride if it is in the clubs best interests short term? Manchester United 5-0 Portsmouth Match Report |
|
February 6, 2010
Premier League Champions Manchester United put beleagured Portsmouth to the sword to return to the top of the table and become top scorers in the division with the best goal difference though the relegation threatened visitors fully contributed to their own downfall with two own goals – making OG the second top scorer for the club this season – and a heavy deflection.
