Manchester United 3-1 Manchester City Match Report

January 28, 2010

Wayne Rooney scores

Wayne Rooney’s injury time header finally settled this Carling Cup semi final derby to deservedly send Manchester United to Wembley to defend the trophy. Carlos Tevez had scored to level the tie after Paul Scholes and Michael Carrick had put United into a commanding position but Rooney’s intervention meant a gruelling extra time period was avoided ahead of the weekend trip to Arsenal in the league.

Match Report: Manchester City 2-1 Manchester United

January 20, 2010

Wayne Rooney

Carlos Tevez scored twice to give Manchester City a slight advantage going into the second leg of the Carling Cup semi final but to say the result was fortunate would probably be the understatement of the decade so far. The game was re-arranged after being originally postponed for snow; but Sir Alex Ferguson was true to his hint that he would shake things up following the FA Cup exit and play a stronger side – it was more or less United’s strongest, in a 4-3-3, as City did likewise.

Fixture List Manipulation and FA inconsistencies

September 30, 2009

Munich Memorial

On my way back from the capital earlier this week the long train journey afforded me an indulgence I don’t take too often, that being the reading of the good old fashioned printed word. Of course I keep upto date with all things football but that generally is done either online or via Sky Sports News.

There was an interesting piece in the Telegraph by Henry Winter that was invitingly titled “Premier League missed a trick with Manchester United centenary fixture “. The article is essentially referring to the 100th anniversary of United playing at Old Trafford which is due to be celebrated on the 19th February 2010.

Michael Owen, Cyprus and Craig Mc

September 25, 2009

Michael Owen Scores

Don’t you just hate it when you predict something, whether it be the ability of a future international defender such as William Prunier (just for the record – I didn’t do that) to whether your attire on a night out is considered a serious lady magnet (ripped jeans and pulled up socks – always a winner), and it goes horribly wrong? You may recall my foolish write off of Michael Owen last week – indicating that his style of play was from another era that was no match for the ‘technical superiority’ of today’s modern game and even had the cheek to bring Didier Drogba into the equation – good grief. This blog looks at my week in Cyprus, delirious celebrations at Michael Owen’s goal and my groveling explanation of my original comments.

Tevez has his head in the clouds dreaming of a rosy return

September 18, 2009

Carlos Tevez

Sadly the image of Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez battling for the same ball looks a remote possibility for the weekends derby clash at Old Trafford.

Regardless, as part of the City squad, the Argentinian is expected to rock up at the Theatre of Dreams in some capacity and Tevez has stated in today’s Telegraph, “I expect to have a good reception.. While at United, I always gave my best and I had good relations with the fans. ”

Former Red legend defends City striker

September 14, 2009

Roy Keane

Former United captain and current Ipswich manager Roy Keane has defended Emmanuel Adebayor after his controversial celebration in front of Arsenal fans on Saturday.  The £25 Million striker was slated for kicking out at Robin Van Persie and running the whole length of the pitch to show his delight at scoring against his former employers – which happened to be in front of the Arsenal faithful.  However, United legend Keane – who is never short of a controversial remark – has defended the striker.

Ferdinand: City won’t win trophies

July 25, 2009

Rio Ferdinand

Rio Ferdinand has been one of the best defenders in Europe over the past three years – a far cry from the criticism aimed at him for failing to turn upto a drugs test and his reluctancy to sign a new contract back in 2005.  However, Ferdinand has taken a swipe of Manchester City’s pursuit of Chelsea captain John Terry – questioning why the man who slipped and missed the crucial penalty in Moscow last season – would want to join a team that aren’t going to win any trophies?
