You’ve seen it before – a right sided player is jockeyed by two players, he performs a ludicrous Cruyff before wrong footing the opposing player and delivers a cross to the far post, which is bundled in by the out of sorts keeper. Garrincha I hear you say? Or perhaps Luis Figo? Nope – Luis Nani today showed the whole world his quality, determination and class by putting on a mesmerising show at the Emirates today.

Wayne Rooney’s injury time header finally settled this Carling Cup semi final derby to deservedly send Manchester United to Wembley to defend the trophy. Carlos Tevez had scored to level the tie after Paul Scholes and Michael Carrick had put United into a commanding position but Rooney’s intervention meant a gruelling extra time period was avoided ahead of the weekend trip to Arsenal in the league.

Manchester United confirm Chris Smalling transfer

Manchester United have confirmed the signing of 20 year old centre half Chris Smalling from Fulham for a reported £8million fee. Smalling had been the pursued by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, however the defender will join the Champions in the summer ready for the 2010/11 season.

One time Premier League title winner Alan Shearer has stated that Wayne Rooney ‘carries United’ at times, a day after the Premier League’s top goal scorer commits his future to United. Alan Shearer famously turned down the opportunity to win a host of medals, twice, by signing for Blackburn Rovers in 1992 and Newcastle United in 1996. Legendary captain Bryan Robson stated in his autobiography that even as a fellow Geordie he couldn’t ‘understand’ as to why Shearer opted out of success at United.

With the doom and gloom of the financial crisis and unethical ownership of Manchester United being the main talking points at the moment, its great to finally receive some good news – Wayne Rooney commits himself to Manchester United long term. There was talk that the Premier League top goal scorer would pack his bags and join Ronaldo in sunny Spain to help fund the Glazer debt, however Rooney has stated he ‘is a United player and is happy here’.

15 years ago today Eric Cantona smashed into an abusive racist in the Selhurst Park crowd. Eric was banned for nine months and returned, and scored, in the 2-2 draw with Liverpool the following October. What embarked on Eric’s return was nothing short of unbelievable and was the influence behind the double win in 1996. Today we can take out hat off to the greatest foreign player that ever graced this land. Eric, we salute you and will never ever forget you.

Carlos Tevez has spoken about the comments from Manchester United club captain Gary Neville towards him regarding his decision to leave Manchester United for Manchester City. On Tuesday the former United striker seemed to be more interested in winding up his old employers than celebrating with Manchester City fans after scoring a controversial penalty in the 2-1 victory over United and celebrated with a hand gesture, that was in reference to Neville’s comments . However, since the 1st leg the Argentinian has spoken about the criticism aimed at him by Neville regarding his departure to Eastlands.
