Here is everything you need to know ahead of Manchester United’s final home game of the campaign, against Newcastle United.

Team News

Man United still have a lot of personnel problems. Tyrell Malacia, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Mason Mount and Anthony Martial have all been out of contention for a while now with their injuries, while the likes of Willy Kambwala, Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes are in the recovery process and they are to be assessed to see if they could be part of this match. The good news are that Scott McTominay and Lisandro Martinez both got back into full training this past week and they might get their time on the pitch, although the game could come too early for the Argentine centre-back. Also, Amad Diallo is a doubt after he limped off the last weekend’s match against Arsenal with a knee problem.

As for Newcastle, they have their own problems, too. Matt Targett is out due to an Achilles problem, Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles have knee injuries keeping them out, while Lewis Miley and Joe Willock cannot play due to back and calf issues, respectively. Sandro Tonali is out due to his betting ban, while it will be interesting to see whether Kieran Trippier will start afer his shoulder injury. Alexander Isak will also be ready to start after he had problems with illness and he might even pair up with the fit-again Joelinton.

Form Guide

Man United are awaiting their final match at Old Trafford this season in abysmal form. Erik Ten Hag’s side is three matches without a win and in real danger of missing out on European football next season. A 4-2 win against Sheffield United was followed with a meek 1-1 home draw against relegated-bound Burnley and what followed was even worse. United got destroyed 4-0 at Selhurst Park at the hands of Crystal Palace, before adding a 1-0 home loss to Arsenal who are still hoping to win the title and end Man City’s domination. This is why United sit in eighth position in the Premier League standings and why a win against Newcastle is so necessary if this team is to qualify for Europe without having to wait for the FA Cup final result.

Newcastle, on the other hand, are playing much better in this latter part of the campaign, where there is no Champions League or FA Cup football anymore. After losing to Man City in the latter of the two competitions, they defeated West Ham, Fulham, Tottenham, Sheffield United and Burnley. They did lose to Crystal Palace and drew against Everton and Brighton, but this late surge in positive results has got Eddie Howe’s side above Man United in the league standings and they could pip them for European football should they stay there and Man City win the FA Cup.

Predicted Outcome

Considering everything, this will be a tough game, but considering it is the last one at Old Trafford this season, we predict Manchester United will beat Newcastle 1-0 and close the campaign at home in good fashion.
