AC Milan Eye Lindelöf Move
AC Milan have reportedly set their sights on Manchester United defender Victor Lindelöf as they look to bolster their defensive options in the summer transfer window. The Italian giants are keen on strengthening their backline, and Fichajes suggests they are plotting a move for the 29-year-old Swedish centre-back. Lindelöf, while not among Erik ten Hag’s first-choice defenders, has been content with a squad role at Old Trafford for the time being. However, the prospect of regular playing time at a club like AC Milan, who are currently third in Serie A behind Juventus and Inter Milan, could tempt the Swede into considering a move.
The former Benfica man is under contract with United until 2025, and although he has made 21 appearances this season, his future could be in doubt. United are expected to reinforce their defence in the summer, and that may lead to several defenders being moved on, with Lindelöf potentially among them. In recent matches, Lindelöf has filled in at left-back due to Luke Shaw’s injury. While he has done a solid job, he lacks the natural qualities of a full-back, particularly when compared to Shaw’s ability to support Marcus Rashford down the wing and contribute in midfield.
Martial’s United Future Decided
Manchester United have reportedly made a decision on Anthony Martial’s future, as the Frenchman nears the end of his ninth season with the club. The forward’s 2023/24 campaign, much like previous ones, has been marred by injuries, casting doubt over whether he will play again before the season ends. Martial’s current contract is set to expire this summer, but United have the option to extend it by a further year. However, according to Football Insider, the club has decided not to activate the extension clause, meaning Martial could leave on a free transfer at the end of the season.
The decision is reportedly influenced by United’s desire to reduce their wage bill, with Martial’s departure expected to lighten that financial burden. The Frenchman has made just 13 Premier League appearances this season, only five of which were starts, and his exit is unlikely to have a significant impact on Erik ten Hag’s squad plans. The emergence of Rasmus Hojlund at the start of the season effectively ended any hopes Martial had of reclaiming a regular spot in the starting XI. With Hojlund now firmly established as United’s first-choice striker, Martial’s time at Old Trafford appears to be nearing its conclusion.
