Manchester United Drawn with Bayern Munich in Champions League

Manchester United have been placed in a challenging group for the Champions League, drawn alongside Bayern Munich, FC Copenhagen, and Galatasaray in Group A. This marks United’s return to Europe’s premier club competition after a year’s absence, and it promises to be an exciting journey for the travelling supporters. While Bayern Munich will be the headline fixture, particularly with Harry Kane’s return to English soil, United will also need to be cautious when facing the likes of Copenhagen and Galatasaray. Despite the daunting trip to Turkey, Erik ten Hag’s men will be confident of securing victories at Old Trafford, especially against Copenhagen and Galatasaray. The group stages present a thrilling opportunity for United to showcase their quality, with a place in the knockout rounds certainly within reach. The dates for these fixtures will be finalised by Saturday, giving fans ample time to plan their trips for what should be an electrifying set of matches.

Maguire and Rashford Called Up for England

Two Manchester United players have been named in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers. As expected, Marcus Rashford retains his place in the national team following an impressive domestic and international campaign last season, including a standout performance at the World Cup. Rashford has yet to score this season for United but will be looking to hit form soon, particularly with an opportunity to impress in Sunday’s clash against Arsenal, a team he has a habit of scoring against.

On the other hand, Harry Maguire’s call-up might raise some eyebrows due to his lack of playing time. The centre-back has not featured for United this season, spending the first three matches on the bench. However, Southgate’s trust in the 30-year-old remains strong, and the England boss continues to rely on Maguire’s leadership despite his club situation. Questions linger over whether Maguire can justify his place in the squad for the Euros if his lack of game time persists. England will face Ukraine on Saturday, 9th September, at Wroclaw Stadium in Poland, followed by a high-profile friendly against Scotland at Hampden Park on Tuesday, 12th September. Kick-off for the Ukraine match is set for 5 pm BST, while the Scotland encounter is scheduled for 7:45 pm. United’s Scott McTominay is also expected to feature for Scotland in the clash.

Mengi Set for Luton Town Move

Manchester United defender Teden Mengi is on the verge of completing a permanent transfer to Luton Town, according to the Manchester Evening News. The 21-year-old is undergoing a medical with the newly promoted Premier League side, and the deal is expected to be finalised ahead of the transfer deadline. Mengi, who had attracted interest from clubs across Europe, has chosen to remain in England’s top flight, preferring a move to Luton. The centre-back has been working hard throughout the summer to reach peak fitness in preparation for this switch, following a failed loan move in January due to injury. Having made his debut for United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 2020, Mengi also gained valuable experience through loan spells with Derby County and Birmingham City. Now, he looks set to continue his development at Luton, with hopes of making an impact following the international break.
