Manchester United have suffered from a lack of firepower on the attack this season, is firepower upfront. The departure of Romelu Lukaku and the injuries sustained by both Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford have hurt the team’s depth on the attacking end. Even Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed he will likely aim to sign a striker during the January transfer window.
According to several reports, one of the alternatives would be to make a move for AC Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek. The Polish striker has not been very good for the Rossoneri side of late. He joined the Serie A giants last January, and would be happy with a potential change of scenery. Especially since Piatek has already said he enjoys the English Premier League.
The Daily Telegraph suggested Manchester United have been keen on Piatek for quite a while. Even if he is currently going through a scoring drought. The Pole only has one goal from open play in his last 13 appearances, and Milan are not happy with his performances. In fact, some Serie A experts believe Milan would be open to sell him to the highest bidder if the chance arises come January time.
How much would Piatek cost in the January transfer window?
The same report, although cited by Calciomercato, has United planning a €40m (£34.89 million) move for the striker. However, Milan are looking to receive a higher fee. Eventually, they would settle with a figure closer to the €50m (£43.6m) mark. Undoubtedly, one of the two sides will have to give in to reach a deal.
Manchester United are not alone on their pursuit of Piatek, though. Barcelona want him to become Luis Suarez’s long-term replacement, while Chelsea have also been linked with a move for him. The Blues, however, might choose to focus on Tammy Abraham’s development. If that’s the case, then United would compete with Barca for the talented forward. Will they be successful on their approach to land the coveted striker Solskjaer has been looking for in the past few months?
