It is a feel-good Monday! Manchester United have won on Saturday against Leicester City, the city rivals are only two points ahead of the Devils after their 3-1 loss at Norwich and now David De Gea has signed a new contract with the club.
There have been rumours last week about this, but there have also been numerous rumours last summer that De Gea still does not want to sign a new deal. But that is apparently not true.
De Gea Signs New Contract
It is now official – David De Gea has signed a new contract with Manchester United.
De Gea has started all five Premier League matches for Manchester United this season, keeping two clean sheets. He has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid. However, those talks should be put to bed now. De Gea will not be leaving Old Trafford anytime soon.

What Could De Gea Contract Mean For Others?
So, what could David De Gea’s contract extension mean? For one, now we are absolutely certain he will be Man United player for years to come. But more importantly, his new contract could make a difference to others. Real Madrid are now going to stop even thinking about the possibility of signing him, which could give Thibaut Courtois a bit more security over his position at Santiago Bernabeu.
But this could also affect other United goalkeepers. Sergio Romero has been Man United’s “number two” for years now and he is now absolutely certain his chance will not come next season. With De Gea’s recent situation and uncertainty, he could have hoped for some opportunities, but now those chances have disappeared.
At the end of the season, he might feel the need to leave the club. Dean Henderson is another talented United goalkeeper that knows he will not be getting a realistic chance of playing regularly, which could mean that Henderson will either continue going out on loans or become a backup choice from next season on. Whether that would be the best for his development is a different subject.
Matic Offered To Serie A Clubs
Nemanja Matic’s start to the new season has not been great. The supporters are not happy with his performances, while the player himself is not satisfied with his playing time so far this season. Rumours about his departure have already started, especially since the Serbia international has a contract until June 2020. This means he could be leaving the club on a free transfer, which could definitely give him more opportunities to choose his next club, but now Calciomercato have some interesting new information.
They are claiming that Matic’s representative has offered him to AC Milan, Juventus and Inter Milan, as the player is reportedly unlikely to prolong his stay at United beyond this season. With Man United having an option for extending his contract for another year, that is not entirely correct assumption, but it still feels like Matic leaving on a free is a possibility. Next summer Matic will be 32 and it is hard seeing him in Solskjaer’s squad after the 2019-20 season.
