Not many interesting things were happening this Sunday, but there were some stories we did not here before. As we prepare for the week in which Daniel James will be presented as the new Man United player and some other deals are expected to get closer to the finish line, here are our most interesting picks of Man United news for today.
Depay Recalls Man United Days
Memphis Depay was in action on Sunday as the Netherlands had the chance of winning the inaugural UEFA Nations League, but Portugal were the ones to claim it, with a 1-o victory in Porto. But former Manchester United winger was in centre of the attention this Sunday, as his interview about the time spent at Old Trafford was published in the media. Most interestingly, Depay spoke about his odd relationship with Louis van Gaal.
“After a while, Van Gaal asked me to come to his office. He said that there was nothing wrong with my left foot and that the extra training with Giggs was nonsense. It’s all in your head, he also told me. That struck me. I mean, what could be wrong with trying to become a better player, with the help of a former top-winger like Ryan Giggs? More and more I got the feeling I could do nothing good according to Van Gaal”, Depay said.
He would go on to speak how Van Gaal told him that he had to talk with a mental coach he personally knew, but after the winger decided that that my not be the best thing for him, he felt ostracized.
”After my third refusal to talk to that mental coach, Van Gaal didn’t speak to me for a long time. I think he’s finished with you when you don’t follow his advice. Before the last game of the season, the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace, he even put me on the stands. Like a teacher does at school to a naughty child”, Depay claimed.
In the end, things did not end well for either of the two Dutchmen.
England Finish Third
UEFA Nations League is over and England won the third place in the play-off match against Switzerland. Or to be completely precise, Gareth Southgate’s boys won the penalty shoot-out, as the regular match ended goalless after 120 minutes of play.
Marcus Rashford did not feature in this match, while Jesse Lingard took his part in the starting XI, before being substituted after 105 minutes of play. It was a pretty dire match throughout and England managed to get the better of their rivals after six rounds of penalties, when Josip Drmic did not convert his shot.
Next two matches England will play in UEFA Euro 2020 qualifiers in September, with two home matches.
Wan-Bissaka Bid Rejected
According to a report from Sky Sports News, The Red Devils have had a £40 million bid rejected for young Crystal Palace right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The 21-year-old burst onto the scene in 2018-19 with the Eagles and has been identified as a main target in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Man United rebuild. However, The Eagles won’t sell their star playmaker for cheap.
