Manchester United have learned their fixtures ahead of the 2019-20 season. The Red Devils will aim to forget a disastrous 2018-19 campaign where they finished in sixth place, although the improvements under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tutelage were quite noticeable. But the club will have a fresh start come August 2019, and it will be interesting to see how the team prepares following what’s likely to be a busy summer in terms of transfers and other stuff.
But which are worth watching? Are there any particular dates fans must focus on? Don’t worry, we got you covered. Here are five dates every single Manchester United should bookmark in their calendar ahead of the upcoming campaign.
August 11, 2019
Who would want to miss the opening match of the season? And as if that wasn’t a big deal already, it will be against Chelsea at Old Trafford. United and Chelsea have not met in the Opening Day since the 2004-05 season. Plus, it will be interesting to see what happens with The Blues now that Eden Hazard has left the club.
October 19, 2019 & January 18, 2020
Fans love a good ol’ rivalry, and this doesn’t get any better than when Manchester United take on Liverpool. The first match between both clubs will be at Old Trafford, while the second one will on Anfield. Last season, the Merseyside club won at home and drew at Old Trafford. Can Manchester United reverse that trend against the reigning UEFA Champions League title holders?
December 7, 2019
This is the first Manchester Derby of the season, and it will be played at the Etihad Stadium. The Red Devils lost both matches against The Citizens last term – 3-1 at the Etihad and 0-2 at Old Trafford. Again, this is another trend Manchester United will need to revert if they want to have any shot at a potential title – or at least, a Top 4 finish.
February 1, 2020
This is when Manchester United take on Wolverhampton at Old Trafford. This match might not look like a big deal on paper, but The Red Devils must avenge what happened against the Wolves during the 2018-19 season. The Molineux outfit went undefeated against Manchester United in three games last season (W2, D1) while taking The Red Devils out of the FA Cup in the quarterfinals. Undoubtedly, Manchester United will be eager to host one of the most surprising sides of the 2018-19 EPL campaign.
