To Play On Friday – David De Gea
Only Manchester United player that will be in international action this Friday is goalkeeper David De Gea. The Spaniard “will be alone” in this regard, as Spain are set to play against Faroe Islands away from home. This is also why De Gea might not even play in this match. Luis Enrique might choose Kepa Arrizabalaga for this match in which the Spaniards are heavy favourites to win comfortably. After all, Spain are expected to host Sweden on Monday night and De Gea might be rested for that match.
Spain have played two matches in EURO 2020 qualifiers so far, winning both of them, currently topping the group ahead of Sweden, Romania, Malta, Norway and Faroe Islands.
Lindelöf Still Not Playing For Sweden
While we are talking about Sweden, it is worth noting that Victor Lindelöf once again is not part of the Swedish national team, after his issues with the national team coach.
Lindelof was unsurprisingly handed a call-up to Janne Andersson’s Sweden squad for the March matches, but the defender opted to turn down his selection. ‘Personal reasons’ were cited as Lindelof’s reasoning, but it was also suggested that the omission of close friend John Guidetti from Janne Andersson’s squad could have played a role in Lindelof rejecting his call-up.
Also, Eric Bailly is not part of Ivory Coast’s team against Comoros, while Nemanja Matic is not healthy enough to play for Serbia in their qualifying matches against Ukraine and Lithuania.
Alexis Missed Chile’s Match
Alexis Sanchez is one of the players expected to leave the club this summer, after hugely disappointing 18 months at Old Trafford, but he was called up for his nation’s Copa America squad. In a friendly match before the tournament, however, Sanchez was not selected. Chile won 2-1 against Haiti, in an unimpressive victory after Haiti had a 1-0 lead at half-time. But then it was Eduardo Vargas and Jose Pedro Fuenzalida who scored in the span of two minutes midway through the second half to turn the match around.
Dan James Confirmed
And as it was expected on Thursday, Manchester United confirmed the signing of Dan James from Swansea City.
“Manchester United is delighted to announce that it has agreed, in principle, terms with both Swansea and Daniel James for his transfer to the club,” a statement on the Premier League side’s official website read.
“Daniel has successfully completed a medical at the Aon Training Complex. Further details will be communicated once the international transfer window opens next week.”
Swansea also announced on their official website that all parties had reached agreement, adding: “The transfer is expected to be completed when FIFA’s international transfer window opens from June 11.”
This means James has become Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first first-team signing at Manchester United in what is expected to be a very interesting summer. New arrivals are expecting in the coming weeks, while James will be announced in front of the media next week, after the international break.
