Man United Add Stuart Webber To The DoF Shortlist
Manchester United are targeting Norwich sporting director Stuart Webber to be their next director of football, according to Daily Mail. The Devils are reportedly interested in Webber’s services, after doing great job at Norwich City, helping facilitate their rise to the Premier League this spring. He was previously doing a similar job at Huddersfield Town, as Head of Football Operations, during whose tenure Huddersfield also managed to get to a promotion to Premier League.
With two such great feats on his resume, it is understood that Man United would like him to become Director of Football. According to Daily Mail, the Devils would build a committee of ex-players to help recruit players and in that scenario Webber would be seen as someone who would oversee that strategy.
If United are really interested in Webber, that would be a much more fitting solution for the club than those previously mentioned. He is someone who is experienced at exactly what Man United need – a Director of Football with a great track record of finding great signings for his teams and cooperating well with the current manager/head coach.
Devils Are Linked With Junior Firpo
News are coming fast from Spain. According to AS, Manchester United are in talks over a deal to sign Real Betis left-back Junior Firpo, The Sun have reported. It is well known fact that the Devils are planning a major overhaul of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad this summer after a disappointing Premier League campaign saw the club finish sixth. Now Firpo has been rumoured to be the next target.
Junior Firpo is 22 years old and has been one of the best Real Betis players this season. Reports claim that United could be willing to pay as much as £26.4million to sign him. Firpo does have an injury record that is not ideal, but it was also rumoured in Spain that Real Madrid were looking at him, as Sergio Reguilon’s backup place at left-back is not so safe since Zinedine Zidane’s return. The player from Dominican Republic has a contract with Betis until 2023 and this season he scored three and assisted four goals in La Liga, as Betis disappointed and finished in 11th place.
De Gea Holding Off Signing A New Deal
Sky Sports also have interesting news this Saturday. David de Gea is still holding off signing a new deal at Manchester United, according to them. Apparently, the Spaniard wants assurances that United will compete for major honours in the future and he is also keen to bring his wages into line with other top earners at the club, including Alexis Sanchez.
This is just another turn in the saga of whether De Gea will extend his contract with Man United and right now he is taking his time. He has all the power at this point, as Man United really want to keep him after several incredible campaigns he has had at the club. But it might be time for the board to start thinking about the next move if De Gea continues stalling.
