Rio Ferdinand Potential Man United Director Of Football
“Ed Woodward is seeking to appoint a technical director whose job will include long-term strategy of United’s first team. The position will identify and recommend prospective players in the first instance, rather than be responsible for ensuring deals are completed. Woodward has an ongoing dialogue with Ferdinand and is known to have met him recently and to admire his football know-how”.
This is what The Guardian are reporting regarding a potential Director of Football position at Manchester United this Tuesday. It is said that former Man United centre-back is in close contention to become one of the main people responsible for signing players and as former teammate of Solskjaer’s he is someone that could work well with the manager.
However, it remains a big question how suited Ferdinand would be for a job he has never done at one of the richest clubs on the planet.
Devils Eyeing Youri Tielemans
According to Daily Star, Manchester United are taking a closer look at Youri Tielemans. The Belgian midfielder currently plays for Leicester, joining them on loan from AS Monaco this January. Since then, Tielemans has been truly brilliant, showcasing all of his talents, scoring three goals and assisting another five in just 11 appearances.
Tielemans was rumoured with a Man United move when he was still at Anderlecht, but now at 21, he seems to be improving and showing his true potential. Leicester are reported to want to do everything they can to keep him at King Power stadium, while Man United, alongside Tottenham, could be set to battle for him.
The Belgian is rumoured to be valued at around £40m and that is definitely something United can pay. With Ander Herrera leaving almost certainly, Matic getting older and Fred still not playing the way everyone expected, Man United could be going for more than one midfielder. In that case, keeping an eye on Tielemans would be wise.
PSG Could Wait For De Gea
Another story appeared on Tuesday. Paris Saint-Germain are already very close to signing Herrera on a free transfer and they could be doing something similar with David De Gea. This story is still a bit far-fetched, but logical from PSG”s point of view. David De Gea seems to be in an odd situation, where no one really knows when he will sign a new contract, or if that will happen before the next season. In that case, PSG could be making pressure, as De Gea would enter final year of his contract.
De Gea’s contract runs through June 2020 and if he is to leave on a free next summer, then he could get even greater contract away from Man United and PSG are rumored to be preparing £450.000 per week if that happens. Also, PSG might still try to sign the Spaniard this summer, if the conditions for that are right and having in mind Gianluigi Buffon’s age, they will need an elite goalkeeper soon.
