Manchester United About To Start An Important Run Of Matches

Manchester United started their Champions League campaign the way they wanted – comfortably, without any problems and without any players getting injured on artificial turf. So, to start the prestigious competition with a 3-0 away win is probably the best as it gets and now the Premier League is back on the menu.

The Devils will be hosting Wolverhampton Wanderers. The visitors have started the season quite well, especially for a side that was promoted from the Championship, but one other thing is here equally important. Manchester United are about the embark on the run of matches they will be looking forward to.

Four Out Of Five

Between now and the next international break in October, Manchester United will play five matches. Four of them will be at Old Trafford. After three consecutive away matches, that sounds reasonable, as that ratio from the eight matches will in the end be 4-4. Manchester United will now host Wolves, before their League Cup match against Derby County. It will be Frank Lampard’s first match as a manager against a Premier League side and he will get to meet his old manager from the Chelsea days.

After that is the only away match in this run – United will visit the capital when they play West Ham United on Saturday, 29 September. Next up after the Hammers is Valencia, in one of the crucial matches in Champions League group stage. The Spanish side will be visiting Old Trafford, as well as Newcastle United four days later, on a late afternoon Saturday match. That will conclude the run of matches prior to the international break.

All Winnable

What is very important here is that all five of these matches are truly winnable. Think about how important this run of matches is. Few weeks ago, Man United had consecutive Premier League losses, conceding three goals in each of them. Before them was a run of three matches away from home, while Jose Mourinho was under immense pressure. Three matches later and Man United seem to be getting a momentum.

Luke Shaw looks regenerated at left-back, Paul Pogba is doing well in recent matches, with some consistent performances. Nemanja Matic seems to be recuperating from injury nicely, while Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have scored some important goals in recent weeks. How far-fetched truly is to think Man United could go on an eight-match unbeaten streak? Or even winning streak?

This is not to say United will have an easy job – this is rather to say Man United have a great opportunity in front of them to build sizeable momentum that could change the outlook of their whole season, not just this early part of it. If Jose Mourinho is to really get this team to make results, this is the perfect time to start them.

The team is already growing in confidence after wins over Burnley, Watford and Young Boys. Yes, they have not been the toughest opposition, nor will be the next five opponents. However, you can only beat the team in front of you. On Saturday, that will be Wolves.
