The 2018-19 Premier League season kicked off last week and Manchester United secured a decent 2-1 win over Leicester City, in a game where the likes of Paul Pogba, Alexis Sanchez and Andreas Pereira stood out. But now The Red Devils will play on the road for the first time during the current term, and they will take on a hard-working Brighton side at Amex Stadium.

Team News

Jose Mourinho has revealed that there will be several absentees for Manchester United, but the list will be smaller compared to last week’s one. Mourinho has confirmed that Antonio Valencia, Nemanja Matic and Jesse Lingard are back in training. However, all three will remain unavailable since it is too soon for them to play a competitive match. Sergio Romero, Ander Herrera, Marcos Rojo and Diogo Dalot remain sidelined. In total, United are missing seven first-team players.

Meanwhile, Boss Chris Hughton will be without captain Bruno, after the veteran right-back was forced off early on at Vicarage Road with a hamstring injury. Jose Izquierdo (knee) and Florin Andone (groin) will also miss on this contest. Based on team reports, Martin Montoya could be on his way to replace Bruno. The former Valencia and Barcelona player is yet to make his competitive debut for Brighton.

Form guide & transfer update

Manchester United’s pre-season featured a mixed bag of results. The Red Devils drew to San Jose Earthquakes and Club America, defeated AC Milan and Real Madrid, and lost to both Liverpool and Bayern Munich for a W2, D2, L2 mark. In terms of transfers, The Red Devils signed Fred, Diogo Valot and Lee Grant, while Andreas Pereira returned from a season-long loan deal at Valencia. Meanwhile, Daley Blind (signed with Ajax) and Michael Carrick (retirement) are not with the team anymore. The club began the year with a solid 2-1 victory against Leicester.

On the other hand, Brighton played five friendly matches in pre-season but their results were not impressive. The Seagulls registered just one win (2-1 vs Nantes), three draws (St. Gallen, Charlton and Birmingham) and one defeat (1-2 vs AFC Wimbledon). They did sign a few interesting players during the transfer window, most notably Bernardo, Martin Montoya, Yves Bissouma and Alireza Jahanbakhsh. The right winger was the club’s all-time most expensive signing, and could draw his first start here.

What happened the last time these two sides met in this venue?

The Seagulls secured a 1-0 win over The Red Devils when these two sides met in this venue last season. It was a thrilling game that was decided with a strike from Pascal Gross in the second half.

Manchester United and Brighton played three times last season. There were two wins for The Red Devils, and one for the Seagulls.

Prediction

We have to take into account that Manchester United still have seven first-team players out due to injuries. However, the team still has an inmense amount of quality on both sides of the ball. That should be enough to take home the three points, even though Brighton will be a hard team to defeat especially in front of their own crowd.
