The things are getting interesting at Manchester United. On Thursday, Sky Sports reported that the Red Devils have made an approach to Leicester City, trying to seal a deal for the transfer of Harry Maguire. Reportedly, English centre-back has been the target of the club since his fine displays at the World Cup. However, now a Manchester United defender has become a target of another Premier League club.

However, before we get to that, Luke Shaw’s interview for ESPN has been bringing up some noise. In a quite honest interview, the left-back has talked about everything that was rumoured regarding him in the past years and his motivations to prove a success.

Shaw Seems Genuine

“People can say I’m fat but I know my own body,. I always look big because I’m bigger built. You could say a Wayne Rooney type of body. I worked hard, and not just for them (critics). I wanted to get in the best shape for myself and that wasn’t my best shape”, Shaw has responded to his critics. The full-back also says that he is working harder than ever and that you have to accept the critics, both positive and negative ones.

There were rumours in the media that Jose Mourinho believes Ashley Young and Shaw are enough cover for the left defensive flank, but that the former of the two would be the first choice once again. Shaw looks ready to change that.

“I’ve been unlucky because I’ve had a few ups and downs with different managers, but I would say I’ve never been out of shape. There have been times when I’ve been in great shape then I fall off it a bit. The way I am, the body shape, I need to play games.

“I’m much fitter, more confident and a different person than last season. I’ve grown and learned a lot from the situations I’ve been in. I don’t want to be in that situation again. I want to play football. I’m not here to pick up my salary and do nothing”, Shaw said.

His attitude throughout the interview sounds of a player that is ready for the greatest challenges. He comes across genuine and honest and it will be interesting to see how he fares with the possibility of not playing regularly once more.

Marcos Rojo Is Wanted

While the left-back situation looks sorted – with Alex Sandro links being stopped – the situation at centre-back is still interesting. We will see who will be the new centre-back at Man United. Someone will arrive, that looks like a certainty, but that also means someone will have to leave. On Thursday we talked about who could be a surplus to requirements in that case. Most of the things pointed at Marcos Rojo.

On Friday, an offer from Wolverhampton Wanderers came in exactly for the Argentine. The rumours are that the offer was worth seven million pounds. It is hard seeing United letting him go before they get a player in, as Mourinho will not want to risk that. But if Maguire – or any other centre-back for that matter – comes in, it is to be expected that the three sides will be looking for a solution.
