Not Griezmann: Big-money attacker rules out joining Manchester United this summer

Manchester United’s hopes of signing Gareth Bale from Real Madrid this summer are seemingly over after the Welsh attacker confessed he is happy with the Spanish and European champions.

Jose Mourinho’s men are preparing for a summer of upheaval and the Old Trafford side are expected to spend a considerable amount of money on new recruits.

A marquee attacking signing is expected to be pursued by United, with The Independent recently stating that the La Liga giants could be willing to offload Bale to the Red Devils before next season.

However, Bale’s name can now be added to that of Antoine Griezmann as a superstar target that will not be moving to Old Trafford.

“I’ve signed a long-term contract at Madrid,” the Wales international is quoted as saying by The Guardian.

“My family is happy and I am happy so, yeah, we will continue what we are doing. We are winning trophies and I am happy.”

Bale’s heroics at Tottenham Hotspur earned him a then world-record transfer to Madrid in 2013, but the flying winger has had an inconsistent time of it in the Spanish capital.

The 27-year-old has shown himself as a world star with Los Blancos when fit and firing, and 19 La Liga goals last season was an impressive return.

However, injuries have never been too far away for Bale during his time in Spain and the Welshman only started 17 league games n 2016-17.

Isco has jumped ahead of the former Tottenham man in Zinedine Zidane’s thinking of late, with the diminutive Spaniard starting Saturday’s Champions League final ahead of Bale.

However, the star’s comments should put the transfer speculation linking him with a possible move to United to bed, with Mourinho surely set to look at other targets.

It is believed that the Red Devils tried to sign Bale from Tottenham in 2013 but were outmuscled by Madrid, with the Wales international now looking set to stay with Zidane’s European champions for at least another 12 months.
