Sky Sports give update on Griezmann’s potential move to Man United

Manchester United target Antoine Griezmann has not asked to leave Atletico Madrid as speculation continues to mount about his future, according to Sky Sports.

The France international is widely acknowledged as one of the most-rounded and dangerous attackers in world football, with a move to Old Trafford a hot topic of discussion in the press in recent weeks.

Griezmann stoked the fires recently when he told French media that he was ‘6/10 likely’ to join United over the summer, with rumblings that Jose Mourinho’s men were confident of landing the former Real Sociedad star.

However, the latest development is a clarification from Atletico, who will obviously be keen to hold onto the 26-year-old star if possible this summer.

Sky Sports claim a spokesman from the La Liga club has stated that Griezmann has not asked to leave the Vicente Calderon, despite reports to the contrary.

United are expected to revamp their attacking options this summer, with an over-reliance on Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the final quarter over the last 12 months.

The likes of Kylian Mbappe, Alvaro Morata and Andrea Belotti have all been linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent times, but Griezmann remains the name most-commonly touted as Mourinho’s first-choice summer recruit.

The France international’s friendship with United star Paul Pogba could well be an added boost in the Red Devils’ pursuit of the attacker, but the forward’s close relationship with Diego Simeone, who is staying at Atletico next season, could scupper a move.

United have today been confirmed as world football’s richest club and plenty of the profits made at Old Trafford are expected to invested into summer expenditure on new players.

With Mourinho’s side finishing sixth in the Premier League in 2016-17, at least one high-profile new signing is needed to restore the fear factor at the historic club.

Griezmann’s addition would add real quality to the United ranks, with the Frenchman’s speed, trickery and eye for goal making him one of the world’s best.
