Nemanja Vidic has signed his contract extension, Rio is expected back in late September, Fletcher compares Scholes to a legendary quarterback, and Sir Alex tries to curb Anderson’s enthusiasm.
Vidic signs new United deal – The Daily Telegraph
It’s not really news, but still is. Just under a month ago David Gill confirmed that Nemanja Vidic had verbally agreed to a new deal with the club that would keep him at Old Trafford until 2014. I never doubted that he would finalize the deal, but those of you who were can breathe a sigh of relief – Vidic has put pen-to-paper on his new deal.
Rio expected back by end of September – The Guardian
Not as soon as most fans would’ve hoped for, but still good news. Sir Alex says Rio Ferdinand should return to fitness by the end of next month. The centre back has not played since picking up a knee injury while on World Cup duty with England. Until then, I’m sure Jonny Evans will continue to excel as a fills in for Rio. One thing that Evans can’t replace, though, is the experience and leadership Ferdinand brings to the squad. Both of the those attributes will be welcomed when he makes his return.
Scholes is our Dan Marino – The Daily Mail
Too often my American friends don’t appreciate great players because they don’t score a lot of goals. Paul Scholes would fall into this category. However, Darren Fletcher is now using the comparison I always use – the Scholes is our quarterback. While he may not score all the stunning goals anymore, he is what makes this team tick. His passing and ability to read the game is invaluable and creates a lot of our squad’s chances. Fletcher has compared the Old Trafford legend to NFL legend Dan Marino. Definitely worthy praise. Marino was one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, and Scholes is one of the best midfielders around. He may not make the big plays with the huge goals, but he works quietly to make sure the team succeeds.
Curbing Anderson’s enthusiasm – ManUtd.com
This was such a fantastic article to read on the official site. Ben Hibbs wrote a great feature about how Sir Alex believes he needs to get Anderson’s enthusiasm under control. I don’t want to recap it, because I can’t do it justice in a summary. I just wanted to recommend that all our readers check it out.
