Tomorrow’s chip paper gives us some good stories today. Sir Alex has reminded Wayne Rooney of his responsibility, Welbeck and Cleverly are set for loan deals, Diarra set to move to United as a result of Cleverly’s switch, Smalling sets big goals, and United prepare to launch the new away kit… you might have seen it somewhere before.

Sir Alex reminds Rooney of responsibility – The Daily Mail

On the eve of Rooney’s preseason debut, Sir Alex has reminded his star striker of the responsibility he has as a Manchester United player. Following reports of Rooney smoking and urinating in public over the weekend, there was rumors that the gaffer would take disciplinary action. Certainly doesn’t seem like much of a punishment, more of a reminder to represent the club in a positive light. I certainly see no wrong with this, seems like the perfect action for this incident. Rooney and his fellow World Cup stars will play in tonight’s friendly.

Sunderland want Welbeck on loan – The Daily Telegraph

We’ve known for a few weeks now Welbeck was going on loan, and now it seems for Manchester United star Steve Bruce has targeted the young striker. However, I’m not sure Sunderland is the best club for him to get games with Darren Bent and Kenwyne Jones also on the club’s payroll. Welbeck in a fantastic prospect, but it may be hard for him to get games at a club with two established strikers. I suppose in the end Sir Alex will send him to the club where he’ll have the most chance of success.

Manchester United “poised for Diarra bid” – The Daily Mirror

Another day, another midfielder linked with United. After the club denied links with Sneijder and Ozil it seems the tabloids have steered away from the scent of a creative midfielder and instead decided Fergie wants to add steel with the likely continued absence, long term, of Owen Hargreaves. Real Madrid have recently signed World Cup star Sami Khedira and that has led to doubts over the future of Lassana Diarra at the Bernabeu. United quite rightly are reportedly baulking at the suggested £19m price tag for someone supposedly “surplus to requirements” and are hoping to get him “on the cheap”.

Smalling sets United goal – Manchester Evening News

Our new boy Chris Smalling also wants to contribute in attack by scoring goals. Do I even need to comment on this story. What’s not to love about a defender who is driven to score goals for his new club?

United launch kit of all white – The Sun

Over three months since Yolkie and Stretford-End.com released worldwide exclusive images of the new Manchester United away shirt, official pictures have been released. I’m not a huge fan of this kit, but I know some of our readers will be excited to see more pictures of the full strip as modelled by Rio Ferdinand, so enjoy! (By the by, BBC Football also ran our pictures on their homepage yesterday – we’ll let them off…) Confirmation (if it was indeed needed) that Stretford-End.com is the most reliable source for Manchester United information around.

Bolton lead chase for Manchester United starlet – The Daily Mirror

As with Welbeck, we’ve known Cleverly would be going out on loan to a Premier League club for a few weeks now. I’d prefer we keep Cleverly as our options in the center of midfield aren’t too plentiful, but I think he’d get more experience at Bolton. This is probably a good move to him; definitely better than the rumored Newcastle move in my opinion.  I wish we could see him in a United kit this season, but his future is certainly bright and there will be plenty of time for him to grace the pitch at Old Trafford.

  1. nice storie there. I am still waiting to hear what will happen to Anderson following his altercation over the weekend. I actually quite like the Utd away kit. As for Diarra i would welcome his signing but i dont think at 19 mill though definately a bit steep imo.
