Here we go! No sooner than the World Cup is over and the 2009/10 season draws to a close we are ready to roll once again with our league encounter of the season. Will be putting together a Community Shield thread nearer the time, however we all know this is the big kick off.

All team news, injuries, transfer suggestions and predictions in here!!

I dont know how i feel about this game its gonna be a huge game. It also doesnt help with World cup stars being rested for start of campaign, i understand it but i would really like to come out of the blocks flying, excited to see what smalling and Chicharito bring to the squad. I would like to see welbeck loaned out and chicharito kept on board as i thought he looked really good in the world cup i was thoroughly impressed by his movement, speed touches and instinct in front of goal. Im getting a bit of topic, i just hope we dont fall to injuries to the back line like last year. that and the fact we couldnt beat or draw with Chelshit at home imo cost us dearly.

2-1 to United. Berba and Fletch the scorers

Difficult to predict really, I hope Scholes can hold up and have a respectable season, would be gutted to see such a gifted player struggling to compete (as i personally thought he did struggle at times last season). I also hope Ferguson becomes more decisive upfront if Berbatov isnt doing it then we cant just stick, try shake it up with Hernandez or Welbeck (Owen if fit). In the defense, we cant really have a season worst than last year when we were raveshed by injuries.

End of the day I cant see us moving in the transfer market where other teams are, so a second place finish and winning a cup competition would seem a realistic target to me.

I see I'm not alone worrying over this game. Newcastle have some momentum coming from the championship eager to play again in the BPL. We tend to start slow, a bad combination really. My heart says 1-0, my mind says 1-1. But then I've been hit in the head way too many times, heart it is. 1-0. Chicarito comes off the bench and starts his United career in style!

I'm going with 1-0 or 1-1 on the Newcastle game, United usually starts slowly on the opening games, and then fire up on October with huge winning margins. I could see Fletcher on the scoreboard here.

I am hoping for a 3-1, Newcastle will come flying out the traps for this one but i think with Rooney back to full fitness and a few others having a short world cup campaign....looking at you Evra..then i cant see anything but a win

Newcastle will be up for it after the year off in the Championship and I think we will have a weaker side with many of our WC players rested. W are slow starters usually so wouldn't be surprised if this is a draw but I'm hoping we can sneak it 2-1.

I don't think Newcastle will be a roll over, saying as it'll be there first game back in the premiership an they'll want to prove themselves.
I'm still gonna go for a 1-0/2-0 utd

ist game of the season is always a tricky one. especially against a newly promoted team(!) they've to prove they really belong here. but the quality of Newcastle attack is never a worrying factor for me as a United fan. they're capable of playing good possession football, pressing hard in the mid field. but the same old vulnerability of Newcastle defence is still there. if Sol and Hernandez starts the match, i really fancy a debut goal at OT for the Mexican. if SAF goes with his earlier decision, that is to rest his WC layers, absence of Vidic will be a problem, considering the dependence of Newcastle players on the set pieces. but it's SAF, and i think Vida will play. an early goal will set the match for United. i'd go with 2-0 to United. Hernandez and Fletch to score.

Working on a preview for the game. Afterwards though expect this to be a Doron or Kyle feature, they'll do it far more justice than I anticipate I will

Predicted line up,

..............VDS..............
Oshea....Vidic.......Evans......Fabio
Valencia.....Carrick......Scholes........Nani
........Rooney..........Berbatov

Went for berba over chicharito because its first game and would just go with the experience. I reckon a comfortable 2-0 win to united. Ever the optimist!
